The Race Car Wagon BMW Should Have Built 20 Years Ago
Twenty years after Andy Priaulx won the WTCC in a Team RBM E90 320si, Moton Suspension built the version BMW never did. We visited Moton's factory in the Netherlands to see the E91 3 Series Touring WTCC tribute. In this video, the AST Motor CEO explains why a wagon made more sense than another E90 replica and how the whole car came together in roughly three months.
The body is the real E90 WTCC kit remade for a Touring, about two inches wider per side, with the rear fenders bonded into the bodywork instead of glued on. The original WTCC wheels were 17x9 with an 18 offset, so Moton copied the design in 18-inch to clear a set of carbon ceramic brakes on brackets machined in house.
The suspension came out of Moton's own archives: the same four-way kit the company built for Team RBM in 2006, down to the stroke and spring rates. Inside there is an FIA approved cage styled to look like the WTCC car, Recaro buckets, carbon door panels and floors from Carbon Tech, a CANchecked display, a KMP wheel and a golf ball shifter that only looks sequential. Priaulx signed the dashboard.
Next stop is PSI in the US for a new engine, gearbox and rear axle, then a SEMA booth with AST and Moton Suspension.
