BMW Concept 7 Protection: The Bulletproof 7 Series You’d Never Spot
The BMW Concept 7 Protection is a bulletproof 7 Series built on the M760e xDrive plug-in hybrid, and it looks almost identical to the car it's based on. Revealed on October 12, 2026, it complies with the new BayB standard, which covers common handgun rounds including 9x19 mm and .44 Magnum.
BMWBLOG Editor-in-Chief Horatiu Boeriu takes a close look at the concept. Thicker bulletproof glass, ballistic steel and fiber-reinforced composites protect the doors, bulkhead and rear wall, and there's an extra layer under the panoramic roof. The armored doors alone add 60 kg (132 lbs) over the standard ones. The windows can't be fully lowered, and an intercom and attack alarm are controlled through a corded handset.
The concept sits below the 7 Series Protection (VR9, VPAM 10 optional) and the X5 Protection VR6, so it skips blast protection in favor of lighter, more discreet armor. BMW recalibrated the chassis, brakes and driver assistance systems for the extra weight.
Inside, it debuts a BMW Individual rear console with a fold-down table, cool box and wireless charging, which BMW will offer on the 7 Series from the second half of 2027. Production of the Concept 7 Protection isn't confirmed, though BMW is looking at selected European markets first.
