2027 BMW 3 Series: Gas vs Electric, Every Design Difference

The new BMW 3 Series now comes as a fully electric i3 or as a gasoline car, and the first-ever M350 leads the gas lineup. In this video, I put them side by side and walk through every design difference, inside and out.

Up front, they're nearly identical, apart from the M350's yellow lights, M stripes and badge. From the side, the differences are clearer. The i3 sits on BMW's Neue Klasse EV architecture, so it has a shorter hood, shorter overhangs and a taller stance. The M350 keeps the classic long-hood sedan proportions to make room for the B58 engine. Around back, the M350 adds a trunk spoiler, smoked Shadowline taillights, a more aggressive diffuser and quad exhaust tips, which are a first for the 3 Series.

Inside, I compare seats, center console storage, the head-up display housing, the crystal glass controls, steering wheel options and rear seat space. The i3 has a flat floor with no transmission tunnel, but its battery pack raises the floor. The M350 gives you a better knee angle in the back. I also cover cargo space, the i3's frunk, performance and range.
