NEW BMW M2 RACING Gets a 4 Cylinder Engine

BMW has long supported customer-led racing efforts, and now it’s time to meet the next chapter: the brand-new BMW M2 Racing! Building on a legacy of models like the BMW M235i Racing, M240i Racing, and M2 CS Racing, the new M2 Racing pushes performance even further with a host of racetrack-ready improvements.

Under the hood, the M2 Racing features a B48 turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 313 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, paired with a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels. BMW didn’t just stop at speed — they borrowed cooling tech from the S58 engine, added a GT4-derived exhaust system, and toughened up the exterior with closed grilles and custom wheels.

Inside, the transformation is complete: a welded roll cage, carbon fiber Sabelt race seats, and cloth door pulls ensure the M2 Racing is ready for serious competition. Meanwhile, touches like the iDrive system, steering wheel, and center console from the standard M2 keep some familiarity intact. Optional datalogging software is available for racers who want to perfect every lap.

Tipping the scales at just 1,498 kg (around 3,300 pounds), the M2 Racing trims nearly 1,000 pounds compared to the street car, making it an incredibly nimble track machine. And at a starting price of €98,000, it offers an exciting entry point into full-fledged racing, with relatively low running costs thanks to strategic parts sharing.

Orders for the BMW M2 Racing open in June, with first deliveries slated for late this year.
