The One-of-One E46 M3 Touring That BMW Hid in a Basement for 20 Years

For years, BMW wouldn't even confirm this car existed. The one-of-one E46 M3 Touring was built as a concept, never shown publicly, and spent its entire life covered in the basement of BMW Motorsport.

It has the coupe front end — not the sedan — custom rear fender flares, a quad-exit diffuser unique to this car, Alcantara and silver mesh seats with ZHP cube trim, a six-speed manual, and no sunroof. Details that make it clear this wasn't a quick cobbled-together show mule.

Someone took it seriously.

BMW never built an E46 M3 sedan either, which made the rear conversion even more involved. And while the business case for a production run never materialized, the car survived. With the G81 M3 Touring finally on sale and wagons having a genuine moment in the US, it made sense to bring it out of hiding.
