New 2023 Toyota Yaris Cross GR Sport - Small Hybrid City SUV
2022/12/21

Toyota's popular Yaris Cross compact SUV lineup has received an exciting update with the new GR Sport variant, offering customers a host of visual and dynamic enhancements at a price of $35,840 plus road costs.

Based on the Yaris Cross GXL 2WD Hybrid, the GR Sport features styling cues inspired by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing's sports cars, which include the GR86, GR Yaris and GR Supra.

The Yaris Cross GR Sport is recognizable as part of the GR family thanks to its redesigned black grille with the distinctive "G" mesh pattern found on other GR sports cars. The same mesh pattern is applied to the rear bumper, and there's a sporty rear diffuser with four vertically aligned aerodynamic fins. Unique 18" five-twin-spoke alloy wheels with a gleaming machined finish set the GR Sport apart from the rest of the Yaris Cross range, which houses sporty red GR-branded calipers on the front brakes.

Exclusive tires have also been fitted to improve dynamic performance. Black mirror caps and GR badging front and rear complete the array of visual exterior changes.

Inside, the GR Sport is immediately recognizable by its unique seats with leatherette cushions and perforated seats. Black suede-like upholstery in the center, with light gray contrast stitching on the seats and steering wheel. The front seats have also been redesigned for a more dynamic appearance and more support. GR logos adorn the headrests, steering wheel and smart keys. while aluminum pedals provide a racing-inspired look.

The changes to the Yaris Cross GR Sport are more than just looks, however, with a retuned suspension that improves handling and sharpens steering response and feel. For the front suspension, engineers have improved spring rate and lower arm stiffness, while adding for the first time a unique limited stop to control body roll and improve ride comfort. Sitting on the Yaris Cross' TNGA-B platform, which offers impressive stiffness and a low center of gravity, the GR Sport's suspension has been lowered by 10mm to make handling even easier.

The Yaris Cross GR Sport is powered by a 1.5-litre hybrid powertrain that combines a 67 kW/120 Nm three-cylinder petrol engine with two front-axle motor-generators to produce a combined system output of 85 kW.

Combined fuel consumption is 3.8 liters per 100 km on the combined cycle, with CO2 emissions of 86 grams per km
