Inside the MINI x Deus Ex Machina One-Offs
Get an inside look at the MINI x Deus Ex Machina one-offs — The Skeg and The Machina — with MINI’s Head of Design, Holger Hampf. These radical John Cooper Works concepts celebrate MINI’s rally heritage and surf culture while pushing design in bold new directions.
At the IAA Mobility 2025 show in Munich, MINI revealed the two projects:
• The Skeg – a fully electric JCW inspired by surfboards, fiberglass construction, and coastal culture.
• The Machina – a gas-powered JCW with rally lights, motorsport details, and a raw racing interior.
In this design review, we break down the details of both cars, from their exterior styling to interior craftsmanship, and talk about how this collaboration with Deus Ex Machina fits into MINI’s future.
