How to use the Kick to Open feature with OS 8.5 | BMW How-To

Your BMW offers the convenience and innovation that you value in your daily life, here is how to operate another one of those features on your vehicle.

If equipped with a power tailgate, the Kick to Open feature is designed to make loading and unloading cargo a breeze, especially when your hands are full. By , Lining your knee up with the BMW Roundel and simply kicking your foot smoothly under the center of the rear bumper, you can access the trunk without needing to fumble for keys or press any buttons.

Please note that if you “kick” again too soon the vehicle may cancel the function and not open the trunk.

And It’s not just for opening the trunk either, when you need to close the trunk, use the same motion, and the trunk will close effortlessly.
(L3 Please note this feature is not available for vehicles with a factory installed tow hitch.)

In our X vehicles you can also customize settings for the tailgate by going to ‘System Settings’ on the Central Information Display, Scroll to Doors and Windows. Then press Tailgate. From here you can set the opening height.
