Preconditioning occurs when you preheat the cabin and battery pack before setting out on your journey. To get the maximum benefit from this feature, your BMW needs to be plugged in. Preconditioning not only helps in cold weather but also in hot summers, especially if you live in areas like Arizona, where temperatures can be extreme.

If you're planning a trip that covers 50% or more of your EV's stated range, we suggest preconditioning your BMW if temperatures are below 50F/10C. However, if you're taking a short trip, climatization is your go-to.
