This is a Motormouth couple car review of the updated 2022 Subaru Forester SUV with the new Wilderness trim. What’s new? The entire lineup gets a bolder new look with a redesigned front fascia, grille, headlights and fog light covers. Subaru offers a new optional gesture climate control system, allowing the driver to raise and lower the temperature through hand gestures. There’s a new Subaru Forester Wilderness trim with 9 inches of ground clearance to help tackle harsh terrain in stride. It has improved gear ratios for off-road performance, a re-tuned suspension, all new front and rear bumpers, matte black finish off-road wheels and Yokohama Geolandar tires plus a full size spare tire. It comes equipped with a front view camera, improved dual-function X-Mode, all weather soft touch water repellent upholstery, more towing capacity of up to 3,000 pounds and a strengthened roof rack that can hold 800 pounds. Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist Technology gets some new features including, upgraded camera sensors offering a broader view and a new automatic emergency steering system.
We are driving the top Premier trim in Cascade Green with black and silver accents, chrome door handles, satin chrome door mirrors and 18” wheels.
The Subaru Forester has a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine matched with a CVT, 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque with standard AWD.
The Forester gets updates to its style, technology, comfort and safety for 2022. Subaru says this Forester is the safest and most versatile Forester ever. The Forester gets a new grille and headlights, a refreshed interior with higher quality materials and more premium finishes. It comes standard with Asymmetrical AWD, active torque vectoring, traction control, vehicle dynamics control and available dual function X-Mode. The upgraded Eyesight Driver Assist technology has new features available like emergency automatic steering. The available DriverFocus distraction mitigation system helps reduce distracted driving. This system can also recognize up to five different drivers and remember their preferences like seating position, outside mirror and climate settings which is standard on the Limited trim in Canada and Touring in the US. The Forester and Rogue offer best-in class front legroom with the Escape and Tucson having the most second-row space, just a little bit more than the Forester. Although the Forester passed our carry-on and a cooler test with ease, it offers the least amount of cargo space behind the second row at 26.9 cubic feet compared to others in this class. Overall cargo capacity is much better at 69.1 cubic feet with the Rogue and Tucson offering the most. The Subaru Forester comes with plenty of standard features like a 6.5” touchscreen, a 4.2” multi-information display, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, manual driver and passenger seats cloth upholstery and heated front seats.
