New VW ID Polo Review – The £22k EV That Fixes VW's Biggest Mistake!
The new VW ID Polo starts at £22,445 – which makes it the cheapest way into an electric Volkswagen, and the car VW is hoping will finally make affordable EVs feel normal. But with the Renault 5, Hyundai Ioniq 3 and MG4 Urban all fighting for the same buyers, being cheap isn't enough on its own.
In this review, we test the new ID Polo on UK roads, measure its real-world efficiency against its closest rivals (on the same route on the same day), and tell you which battery and trim level make the most sense.
You'll find out:
• How much the new VW ID Polo costs – and why despite a £1500 government grant it doesn’t undercut the Renault 5 or Hyundai Ioniq 3
• Official range for both batteries – up to 205 miles from the 37kWh version, 281 miles from the 52kWh
• Real-world range and efficiency – we drove it back-to-back with a Renault 5 and an MG4 Urban on the same test loop, swapping drivers
• Charging – peak rates of 105kW and 88kW, and the 10-80% time for each battery
• Boot space – 441 litres, which is more than a Golf or ID.3, and far more than a Renault 5
• Driving – ride comfort, handling, performance and refinement
• The physical buttons VW has brought back – and the infotainment system that finally works!
• Interior quality, rear space, towing limits, safety and what the forthcoming GTI will bring
