2025 Land Rover Range Rover Sport
Price: $81.550–$125.250
Overview
Smaller and more nimble than the full-size Range Rover, the 2025 Range Rover Sport SUV sits at the heart of the Land Rover lineup and offers solid capability both on- and off-road. A trio of available powertrains lets you order the Sport that best suits your driving style—and lifestyle. The base P360 inline-six makes 355 horsepower while the P400 inline-six pumps that number up to 395; a plug-in-hybrid variant called P550e (reviewed separately) makes 542 ponies and offers an estimated 51 miles of electric-only driving. An adjustable air spring suspension system provides extra ground clearance when you need it and hunkers the SUV down when you don't, improving aerodynamics, on-road handling, and off-road capability. Spec'd with the optional Stormer Handling package, the Range Rover Sport turns into a true performer, with a rear-wheel steering system and a torque-vectoring rear differential. If maximum performance is what you're looking for, though, consider the Range Rover Sport SV (also reviewed separately), which comes with a 626-hp twin-turbo V-8. Regardless of which model you choose, you get a premium cabin full of amenities, a comfortable ride for when you want to cruise, and a dashing exterior design that is instantly recognizable as a Range Rover. The cost for a car wearing this upper-crust badge is high: the Range Rover Sport commands a premium over the starting prices of its well-respected luxury-SUV rivals, a list that includes the BMW X5, the Porsche Cayenne, and the Mercedes-AMG GLE53.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The entry-level engine is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that employs a 48-volt hybrid system and makes 355 horsepower in the P360 SE; that same engine is tuned to deliver 395 horsepower in the P400 SE Dynamic. The juiciest cut can be found in the P530 models, which come with a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 engine that pumps out a robust 523 horsepower. Our test vehicle delivered peerless ride quality, which was appreciated over the broken tarmac near our Michigan headquarters. A plug-in-hybrid setup is also offered, but we review that model separately. All models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, standard all-wheel drive, and an adjustable air suspension. The Range Rover Sport can also be had with an optional performance driving setup called the Stormer Handling package, which adds rear-wheel steering and torque vectoring to the rear differential. During our initial test drive, we were impressed with the Range Rover Sport's blend of comfort and athleticism and noted that its rear-wheel-steering system made maneuvering in tight spaces less challenging.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The interior design of the Range Rover Sport is an exercise in minimalism, with few physical buttons and switches and a streamlined appearance throughout the cabin. Buyers can choose from either textile or genuine leather upholstery in attractive two-tone designs. The dark-tinted chrome accents look particularly premium. Power-adjustable front seats are standard, but a set of chairs with up to 22 ways of adjustability, as well as massage and ventilation, is optional. An integrated air purification system is available and is said to reduce odors, bacteria, viruses, and allergens from the cabin.
