2025 Dodge Durango
Price: $40.490–$67.965
Overview
The 2025 Dodge Durango is showing its age but it's lost little of its swagger. Underneath that burly exterior resides a three-row SUV interior that can be configured for seven or six, the latter by opting for second-row captain's chairs. Stellantis' familiar UConnect infotainment software drives the standard 10.1-inch touchscreen, standard heated front seats keep derrieres warm, and the overall style keeps the muscle-car vibe alive. Power is provided by the venerable standard 3.6-liter V-6, but the well-known 5.7-liter V-8 is still available. Part of the Durango's appeal is its impressive tow rating of up to 8700 pounds when properly equipped, but even the V-6 is good for 6200 pounds. If all this sounds too old-school and extroverted, you can always opt for other new-school—and less exciting—choices like the Kia Telluride, Mazda CX-90, or Toyota Grand Highlander.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Durango's standard 295-hp V-6 engine and eight-speed automatic transmission make for a capable and efficient—if not thrilling—pairing that'll please most casual drivers. The 360-hp V-8 provides a significant boost in towing capacity (7200 pounds standard, and up to 8700 pounds when properly equipped), but you'll feel it at the pump. The Dodge's suspension walks the fine line between sportiness and comfort, but steering feel and braking performance never strays far from the old-school SUV playbook. Although it's not overtly sporty, the Durango's rear-wheel-drive platform lends an athletic feel to the driving experience, and its muscle-car persona shines through in everyday use. But because it's not sprung too aggressively, it remains a family-friendly SUV that's both fun to drive and easy to live with.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Despite its age, Dodge designers have kept it feeling reasonably contemporary with a well-executed design. The interior's ergonomics and overall comfort are still up to contemporary standards, and the front passenger compartment exudes the personal luxury-meets-muscle car vibes of its Charger and Challenger siblings. Then again, many modern SUV rivals offer more second- and third-row passenger space. A set of gauges featuring red and white on a black background faces the driver. The steering wheel features a thick, leather-wrapped rim and handsome metal-look trim. On our R/T test vehicle, paddle shifters mounted behind the wheel operated with a satisfying click. We were able to fit 30 carry-on suitcases inside the Durango's cabin with all of its seats folded flat, but we only fit four behind the third row with all seats in place. That's two more than the Acadia managed in both measurements.
