The 2025 Mercedes-Benz E-class is a rich amalgam of refinement, comfort, and innovation—one of the best examples of the luxury car breed. It's very much the midsize interpretation of the stately and posh S-Class—which is saying a lot—with a corresponding increase in agility and maneuverability. Compared to the BMW 5 series and Audi A6, the E-Class is more luxurious and opulent inside, with a handsomely rendered—if complicated—infotainment system delivering all of the newest tech features. It's not as sporty or athletic as the BMW or Audi, but for most luxury clients, that's not a priority. Still, it displays enough finesse and style to win a spot on our 2025 10Best and 2025 Editors' Choice lists. For the rare driver desiring more performance, the new Mercedes-AMG E53 plug-in hybrid model with 604 horsepower should easily satisfy. We review that model separately.

What's New for 2025?

This year, the E-class gets a new base model in the form of a rear-wheel-drive E350 four-cylinder. Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel drive is available as an option and remains standard on the E450. A new center-mounted airbag is standard across the lineup and deploys between the two front-seat occupants in the event of an accident. Patagonia Red is a new exterior color option and a faux-leather steering wheel is also now available.
Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2025 Mercedes-Benz E-class starts at $63.600 and goes up to $76.290 depending on the trim and options.

RecommendedE350 Pinnacle: $67,890
E450: $72,000
E450 Pinnacle: $76,290

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Under the E350's hood is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that pairs with a 23-hp electric motor for a combined 255 horsepower. All-wheel-drive is optional on this model and standard on all other E-classes. The E450 gets a similar hybrid setup for its turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, which brings the total to 375 horsepower. The hybrid systems are said to reduce turbo lag and smooth the operation of the auto start/stop system. In our test of the new E-class, we found both powertrains deliver their oomph smoothly and quietly. The four-cylinder E350 is plenty quick, but the E450 is even quicker and its inline-six is a particularly sweet-sounding and potent engine. An adjustable air suspension is optional and replaces the steel-spring arrangement that comes standard, but both setups provide impeccable ride quality and good handling. A rear-wheel steering system is also available and is said to improve maneuverability in tight spaces.

0–60-MPH Times

When we tested the new E-class at our test track, the four-cylinder E350 4Matic got to 60 mph in a swift 5.8 seconds. The six-cylinder E450 was significantly quicker, with a 4.4-second sprint to 60 mph.
