BMW M1 - The Million Dollar Supercar
The BMW M1 is the first car to be solely developed by BMW M and the first BMW supercar. Less than 500 BMW M1 road cars were built, some of them now cost over $1 million. In this video, we learn about the history of the BMW M1, its founder Jochen Neerpasch, and what makes the M1 special.
Speaking of Jochen Neerpash, at one point, he owned a one-of-three BMW M1, which was painted in a unique shade of silver. Unfortunately, he sold his BMW M1 in the mid ’80s when he moved to London to pursue a career at IMG, one of the biggest global sports, events and talent management company in the world.
Through all of the complications and controversy, the BMW M1 was somehow a brilliant car to drive. Its chassis was balanced, its suspension was shockingly supple, its steering was precise and communicative, and its engine — a motorsport-bred 3.5 liter naturally-aspirated inline-six — was an absolute joy to use.
