How to perform a Remote Software Upgrade with OS 8.5 | BMW How-To

Your BMW is a marvel of innovation and a gateway to the future. But to keep it running at its best, there's one crucial step you can't afford to overlook: Remote Software Upgrades.

Just like your smartphone or computer, your BMW relies on software to operate efficiently and safely. But here's the thing: we continuously improve our software to ensure you have access to the newest features, latest security updates, improving performance over time, and enhancing your overall driving experience.

Staying up to date has never been easier thanks to the MyBMW App. As long you have allowed ‘Push Notifications’ on your phone you will be notified when a Remote Software Upgrade is available for your BMW.

When you receive the notification all you need to do is follow the prompts to ‘start’ or ‘schedule the installation’ for a specific date and time that is
convenient for you. To ensure your vehicle software is always up to date, from the My BMW app, tap ‘Check Status’ below the image of your vehicle, scroll down to ‘Software’ and tap ‘Remote Software Upgrade’. Then, tap ‘Download Settings’ Make sure ‘Download Automatically’ and ‘Download via Wi-Fi Only’ are both turned on.

Alternatively you can check directly from your BMW. Using Voice Command, you can simply say, “Remote Software Upgrade” and the screen will be brought up for you to check for an upgrade. You can also press the ‘Menu button’ (four boxes) tap the search box and type ‘Remote Software Upgrade.

Or you can go to ‘System Settings’ and scroll down to, ‘Remote
Software Upgrade’. If there is an upgrade available, you will receive a notification at the end of your drive to let you know it is ready to install. Once safely parked, it generally takes about 20 minutes for an
upgrade to complete.
