2020 Lincoln Aviator Review // Second take
Max Landi takes the Lincoln Aviator for a test drive. This new Lincoln Aviator is based on the sale RWD platform shared with the Ford Explorer. It comes with a 400hp 3.0L twin-turbo V6. Lincoln takes this new, capable platform and builds a true "traditional Luxury" SUV. It starts with solid styling and Aviation inspired cues on the outside and a high-end escape on the inside. The idea is to build a 7-passenger luxury SUV that allows the passengers to be surrounded in a sanctuary, removed from the outside world. To make this new Lincoln Aviator luxury SUV feel so effortless is plenty of power and a smooth and luxurious air suspension. The base engine is a 3.0L twin-turbo V6 with 400hp and 415 lb.-ft. of torque matched to a 10-speed automatic. Later a hybrid version will be available with 494hp and 630lb.-ft. of torque. The effortless luxury and power is a throwback to when Lincoln dominated luxury sales in North America. This approach is very different from what the German and Japanese are doing in this space. The front seats have 30-way adjustment and massage features, plus there is a camera system that reads the road to detect potholes and softens the suspension to make the ride alter smooth. The base suspension is a coil spring with active dampers. The al-new Lincoln Aviator is a major step in the right direction for Lincoln.
