The Bus is Back | MotorWeek Motor News

2023/06/27

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz all-electric microbus is finally making its way stateside.

Arriving in 2024, the North American model rides on a longer wheelbase with three rows of seating. There will be a single-motor rear-wheel drive version with 282 horsepower and a dual-motor all-wheel drive version with “about 330 horsepower.” No official range numbers yet from the larger 91 kilowatt-hour battery.

BMW has unveiled the new 5 Series sedan, including the first-ever all-electric 5 Series, the i5. It has an estimated 295-mile range. All 5 Series have grown a little longer, taller and wider, flaunting a more stylish exterior. The interior is luxurious and tech-savvy, including BMW’s Curved Display and an available Interaction Bar.

Chevrolet has partnered with American Expedition Vehicles for the new Colorado ZR2 Bison.

This gives the just-redesigned midsize pickup exclusive AEV bumpers, 17-inch beadlock capable wheels with 35-inch mud terrain tires, and Multimatic dampers. It uses the same 2.7-liter turbo inline-4 found in the regular ZR2.

Aston Martin has debuted their DB12 “Super Tourer.”

It packs a 4.0-liter Twin-Turbo V8 with 671 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. That means 0-to-60 sprints in 3.5 seconds. It comes with a reworked chassis, suspension, and Michelin Pilot Sport 5 S tires.

Finally, starting early next year, Ford EV owners will be able to plug into over 12,000 Tesla Superchargers in the US and Canada. Unhappy with other charging networks’ reliability, 2025 Ford EVs will even switch to the Tesla North American Charging port, eliminating the need for an adapter. It’s a good bet other brands will follow.

And that’s it for this week’s Motor News.
